PORTLAND

PORTLAND

There is a time in everyone's life where you need to get away, from work, business & everyday life - AKA Vacation.  My vacation twice a year always ends up in Portland, Oregon, my other home away from home.

This trip my better half, Josh Zuck, Pedal the dog, and myself arrived on a beautiful Thursday afternoon.  After settling in we began to discuss dinner, which in fact is the meaning for this blog - EATS IN PORTLAND.  As usual, my life is constantly revolving around food and what to cook next.

THURSDAY - IDAHO - Elk steaks, provided by Josh Zuck inco.... Farmraiser potatoes and carrots we bought from some cute kids down the street (The TORRES'), Mom made a beautiful salad as usual, I brought a bottle of Dunham Cab-Syrah blend for Dad's birthday that I missed several weeks before, we ended up crushing a few more bottles.

FRIDAY - Hot date with Grandma and Grandpa.  Earlier this summer Josh and I scored with some mushroom hunting in Ketchum. ID.  With our plentiful bounty we dried and sent off a few shrooms to my grandparents.  Low and behold they saved a few!

DINNER - Grandma Pearl and Grandpa Harry had made their own fresh pasta with a morel mushroom - port cream sauce, a salad of mozzarella - tomato - and fresh greens from their garden, we had brought a beautiful hearty loaf of bread that our friend had just baked (Nick Smith), that was just divine.  Special occasion wine I brought was an Archery Summit Pinot Noir, as my grandfather turned 90 the next day :)  Grandma then went all out with a limoncello syrup on vanilla icecream with fresh raspberries.

SATURDAY - The big surprise.  As I said before my Grandfather turned 90, the reason for coming this particular weekend was not only that, but the big surprise.  His sister, Marilou, 92, flew from Tennessee all the way to Portland to surprise her brother.  The meeting was amazing, 5 years too long.  Grandpa had to brace himself with the wall to control his excitement!

DINNER - Beef Tenderloin with horseradish cream, Scalloped potatoes, Grilled Asparagus, Freshly baked bread, Salad of Romaine - feta - radish - tomato - avocado - red onion - lemon/Dijon vinaigrette (secret family dressing), to finish - grandma's cheesecake.

As we near the end to my Josh, Pedal and my journey to Portland, a new one is about to begin......

Before that we need to drop my parents at the airport and Josh and I get a night to ourselves!  Where ever will we go?  We talked of Ethiopian foods and Japanese....  Deep down I will always get what I crave.....

Gino's in Sellwood Dinner - Split the perfectly garliced Caesar salad and the Grandma Jeans pasta - that mark my words I will learn to recreate!  Polished it off with several glasses of red and off to bed.....

Please keep in mind I did not go to school for writing, and so these blogs may be hard to read moving forward.  Take what you want, email for recipes, restaurant suggestions etc....
